Beth Snape, Choir Director
Hi! My name is Beth Snape and I am in my fourth year of being the choir director for First Presbyterian Church. I have been a member of this church for 32 years. I am the mother of two boys, 13 and 10 and have been married for 15 years. I never could have imagined myself as the choir director for my home church but the Lord had something else in mind.My musical experience starts as far back as I can remember. My mom was a piano lesson teacher and the organist for this church, so there was always music going on around our house. I participated in the youth choir growing up and in high school started helping out with the Vacation Bible School music.During my college, in which I received a Bachelor of Music Education, I came back and sang in the choir when I could and again, helped out with the music for Vacation Bible School.
After college, I became a music teacher at Oldenburg Academy in Indiana. I stayed there for 12 years. Life as a mom became more important to me, so I took a break from teaching in school and gave private music lessons. During this time, I continued to participate in the choir and I subbed as organist when my mother needed a vacation. In 2006, our choir director decided to retire. Years before this, I had told someone there was NO WAY I could be the choir director, but as I mentioned in the first paragraph, the Lord had other plans. With much encouragement from my parents, husband and church friends I decided to apply and have been directing the choir ever since.Other aspects of my job include planning for summer choir, planning special music for summer, helping to plan special worship services, practicing and readying our youth choir and adding to the service by using my other gift God gave me, my trumpeting. |
